Lytle: Talk to us about the Stand Your Ground law. Is it vague and or is it doing exactly what it set out to do? Should we just give it a chance to work?

Kreegel: Jeff, interestingly, self-defense has always been a legal defense. What the Florida Stand Your Ground law did, and I was there to vote for it, because I’ve been there for eight years … what that did is codify the fact that you do not have a duty to retreat.

Now, a supposed duty to retreat has never really existed in Florida. It was an invention of some activist judges in Northeast. That law as to pre-empt that kind of thought process from filtering down into Florida, and I think it’s a good law. And we do not know whether it applies in this case.

The investigation is not over. None of us know the facts.
